Sundays like Grandma

Today, yesterday, last Sunday and last Saturday I had one goal: clean the apartment. Last Saturday I successfully cleaned one room. Since then: nothing. The day is still young (hey - just 24 hours ago it was only 4pm), so maybe I can get it done. I'm leaving Tuesday for a conference in Montreal, and I like to clean before I go so that I can return to a clean home. Also, I like to clean in the daylight so I can spot the dust. Fascinating stuff.

What I have, so far, accomplished today has been polishing the silver. Just like grandma. As a wedding gift, my mother gave me a lovely tea set that had been my grandmother's. But it tarnishes so quickly! Especially in the summer - is it humidity that does it? Because I've noticed that since living in NYC, that my silver jewellery also tarnishes quickly here.

Before:

You can't really tell how tarnished they are here. You can tell how cute my little helper is though.

And after.

I especially love the handle on the teapot.

There was a time in my life where I loved going to these conferences, but not anymore. Not only am I dreading this one, for various reasons, but I also don't feel like going away for 5 days. I'm trying to focus on the good things:

1. Montreal!
2. We have reservations at a delicious and well-reviewed restaurant on Friday night. And when I say "we" I mean me and two of my friends, not colleagues (not that there is anything wrong with my colleagues).
3. I am planning on picking up two books that I've been wanting while I'm in Canada - books that are not yet published in the U.S. One is the 2010 GG book.
4. When I get home from this, it will only be 11.5 days until we leave for our vacation in the Pacific Northwest - and that is definitely something to look forward to!
